Book Cover — What it meant to surive

Cover Design: Selden Grandy, Selfor Media
Text Treatment: Bywater Books

Mala Kumar, author and global leader in the groundbreaking field of technology for social good, has completed her second novel, What it Meant to Survive. This modern and global love story follows its queer protagonists as they fight to navigate race, religion, class, and trauma, through the systems built to fight back.

SELFOR WAS ASKED TO…
…design an illustrative book cover that captures the story of its two female protagonists, while speaking to the rich cultures from which they each come.

The love story of Ramya and Juliet weaves together their unique Nigerian and Indian cultures. The beauty of love—and of art—is in finding all the ways in which we are connected. Drawing from the vivid art and textiles of Nigerian and Indian cultures, the finished product seeks to pay homage to the shapes and design elements that are pervasive in both Indian and Nigerian art, without copying the cultural patterns directly.

Mala’s novel is out on October 1, 2024! Check out the synopsis and subscribe below for updates!

Buddy Partnership video

Insurance technology startup Buddy believes adventure is for all. With this tenet, they are working to change the way we do fun stuff by creating an on-demand accident coverage product, helping users to fearlessly live an active, outdoor life.

SELFOR WAS TASKED WITH…

…producing an explainer video to be included in the launch of their product integration technology, with the goal of growing their B2B partnerships during the winter ski season.

Using Buddy’s existing brand standards, the finished video launched on target media—including social, direct to email, and web—encouraging new partnerships by explaining how businesses can help their customers gain coverage and confidence with Buddy’s product integration.

REALTOR® STRATEGY

Visit any Congressional office, and you’ll find the local print publications like The Hill strewn on desks and splayed on lobby tables. We turned those desks and tables into billboards.

SELFOR WAS ASKED TO…

…develop a print media strategy that would showcase the National Association of Realtors® national branding campaign on the local Washington, DC stage, where they’re most known for their homeowner and homebuyer advocacy on Capitol Hill. To do so, we executed an ad that encompassed all four covers of DC’s most widespread print publication, The Hill.

Standing out against the dark, text-heavy covers of the newspapers and area tabloids, the full color, 4-cover page ad was hand delivered to each member of Congress on May 15, 2019. With corresponding digital and airport campaigns, the print wrap was a part of holistic branding effort to demonstrate who the National Association of Realtors® is, what the organization does for the economy, and what they advocate for in the communities of policymakers and their constituents.
